Join U District Next on January 31st at Alder Commons for With Partnerships the third of three community events designed to engage the community in a vibrant discussion about possibilities in the future University District. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with the program beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Synopsis:
Thursday, January 31, 2013, 5:00 to 7:30 pm at Alder Commons (the new dorm on the south side of the Parkway)
1315 NE Campus Parkway, enter the courtyard and go down the stairs, or enter on south side from NE 40th St.

Group Discussions
The event will feature guest speakers Terry Foegler and Kristine Cunningham. Mr. Foegler has over thirty years of experience leading a wide range of innovative planning, growth management, community-economic development, and revitalization efforts. For 12 years, Mr. Foegler led the Ohio State University’s “Campus Partners” neighborhood revitalization initiative which was the 2010 recipient of the American Planning Association National Award for Plan Implementation. The second speaker, Kristine Cunningham, is the Executive Director of ROOTS, a homeless shelter for young adults. Ms. Cunningham also serves on multiple boards and committees including serving as co-chair of the University District Livability Partnership Steering Committee and Leadership Committee.
The event will be moderated by guest speaker Dr. Margaret O’Mara, Associate Professor of History at the University of Washington. Dr. O’Mara writes and teaches about politics, cities, and technology in the modern United States and around the world. In addition to Dr. O’Mara’s academic work, she advises business leaders, elected officials, and cultural organizations on the history and contemporary dynamics of innovation economies.
The event will include time for small group discussions, where you can share your thoughts and ideas for the future University District with other members of the community.
This effort is part of the University District Livability Partnership, an initiative comprised of local community groups and organizations, the University of Washington, and the City of Seattle.
